Mild Things is a Brooklyn-based 4 piece Rock & Roll/Americana/Folk/Rock band that have been known to mix setlists with story songs, dark ballads, fun rock n' roll and some occasional corny jokes.
Mild Things released their first album "The Talk" in August of 2015. Find it on iTunes, Spotify, BandCamp, Amazon etc.
Originally started as a small solo project created by singer and guitarist Jeremy Ladd. After feeling that some of the songs had outgrown the acoustic guitar alone, Mild Things was born. To fill out the sound with vocal harmonies and instrumentation to tell a bigger story Devin O'Daniel (drums), Karen Kuhn (vocals, violin, synth) and Chris Salucci (bass, vocals) joined the group.
The Talk
What You Wanted to Say
We've gone and made ourself a mess Have to clean it up I guess my suggestions didn't work it doesn't mean that I'm a jerk So tell me what you wanted to say this time I won't walk away I won't leave you in the yard sometimes things are just too hard We stayed up late we had some drinks I don't care what your friend thinks wanna tell him that he's wrong you think I come on to strong? So tell me what you wanted to say this time I won't walk away I won't leave you in the yard sometimes things are just too hard
Make Believe
With my hand on my heart, looking for a place to start explaining myself over and over to you it feels like we've been tricked some things you just can't predict especially when it's fresh and happy and new so just talk to me for a while cause I'd love to see you smile one more time before the night is through so please just make believe that I'm not gonna leave just act like you had never known I know you think I lied and I'm sorry that you cried but I can't tell this story anymore when you were walking in you had a smile upon your chin now your frown is dragging on the floor this isn't what we planned just give me your hand so you stop sliding closer to that door so please just make believe that I'm not gonna leave act like you had never known so please just make believe that I'm not gonna leave that tomorrow you won't be alone
Rock N' Roll Music
Saw that girl walking down the street the kind of girl that I'd like to meet I said "hi" she said "bye" I said wait a minute please don't go There's somethings that you should know she said "stop, or I'll call the cops" People say you've gotta use it or lose it so come and dance to this rock n' roll music wasting time there's no way to excuse it so dance with me to this rock n' roll music we can dance all night Yaaaahh Maybe you could even hold my hand maybe we could even start a band she just sighed it killed my pride I don't really think you wanna fight so come with me and you will see the light she said fine we blew a line People say you've gotta use it or lose it so come and dance to this rock n' roll music wasting time there's no way to excuse it so dance with me to this rock n' roll music we can dance all night Yaaaahh WHOOOAA People say you've gotta use it or lose it so come and dance to the rock n' roll music wasting time there's no way to excuse it so dance with me to the rock n' roll music we can dance all night Yaaaahh
Portland
There's some things I want to say to you but I didn't dare I repeat them to myself but never when you're there when you walk away I think, "she probably wouldn't care" I don't wanna keep it bottled up and I don't mean to stare So you're from Portland too so tell me what you do and what you think is cool and where you went to school can I sit down next to you? and mumble like a fool because I think you're too, way way way way too, way too beautiful, way too beautiful My brain has piles of words to say but my lungs can't find the air I think I think I think sometimes though I'm not sure where spill my heart out to you pray it doesn't tear and when we walk away I hope we make a pair So you're from Portland too so tell me what you do and what you think is cool and where you went to school can I sit down next to you? and mumble like a fool because I think you're too, way way way way too, way too beautiful, way too beautiful
Don't Wait
I took the downtown bus from Bowery up to Harlem just by standing on the wrong side of the street Then you called me from the last pay phone in Brooklyn to ask me why I haven't called you back Don't wait for me Don't wait for me Don't wait for me I took the downtown bus from Bowery up to Harlem through a tainted landscape of words you never said And the skyline that's predicting its own ruin mutters "You can't lose a love you never had" Don't wait Don't wait Don't wait for me I took the downtown bus from Bowery up to Harlem forced to face what I knew all along And all that's left now is this bitter sinking feeling some kind of joke that's gone too far and far too long I took the downtown bus from Bowery up to Harlem just by standing on the wrong side of the street
The Storm
I always love it when you wear that shirt smile so much it makes my face hurt this place is perfect for girls like you who don't know what you want but you say you do But there's something you should know I'm gonna leave you before it snows what we have is tattered and torn we'll never make it through this storm You always say the most amazing things never heard a song you couldn't sing nothing about you could be improved sorry baby it's time for me to move but there's something you should know I'm gonna leave you before it snows what we have is tattered and torn we'll never make it through this storm
Francine
Her face began to sour as she sat another hour waiting for the man that she had chosen he staggered out the door, said I'm going to the store she slumped back on the couch like she was frozen in a fight the night before that felt more like a war she looked into his eyes and he closed them Francine just go it feels good to be on your own Francine when you're gone Is when you'll finally realize he was wrong Awake in bed alone she was staring at her phone cursing all the lies that he had told her Crying through her hair, she screams it isn't fair Wishing that he'd just come back to hold her in a fight the night before that felt more like a war she looked into his eyes and he closed them Francine just go it feels so good to be on your own Francine when you're gone Is when you'll finally realize he was wrong
The Other Guy
Don't talk much about losing but they hardly ever win Just talk about the places that we've been Spend all my time just taking when I really want to give Just blame it on the places that we live Everybody has to try to blame it on the other guy sometimes the other guy is, you baby when you blame him first You don't have to be the worst At every single thing that you do Oh I need some love but I surround myself with hate then blame it on the girls that I date I'm just trying to float but all I can do is sink and blame it on the bottles that I drink Everybody has to try to blame it on the other guy sometimes the other guy is, you baby when you blame him first You don't have to be the worst At every single thing you do
The Ocean
Threw your pills into the ocean Just before you took that dive When you're falling in slow motion You finally learned to love your life You never could talk to your father you only cared about how he lied Then he called to say Hes sorry on the day before he died hmmm hmm hmmm la la la There's no lessons I can teach you You won't learn better on your own You can't get him to make you happy If you can't find peace when you're alone You've gone and spent your last dollar Just to change the way you feel All those drugs made you feel smaller With a few more wounds that need to heal hmmm hmm hmmm la la la Threw your pills into the ocean Just before you took that dive then you're falling in slow motion You finally learned to love your life There's no lessons I can teach you You won't learn better on your own You can't get him to make you happy If you can't find peace when you're alone
Jimmy and Amy
Jimmy came from the shady side of old McKenna mountain his family moved there a long long time ago then one day the townsfolk caught him pissing in the fountain the townsfolk said "old jim you've got to go" but Jimmy wouldn't leave he had something up his sleeve he was not about to be pushed around Went out after dark Old Jim he made the spark burned old McKenna Mountain to the ground Sometimes life it ain't so great sometimes life it ain't so bad sometimes life can be confusing but it's the only life he'll ever have Amy was a lonely girl from Amatulle Island her family made their living off the sea Amy loved her cousin Glen, until things turned out violent said you can't be with him he's family but Amy wouldn't sway her love she won't betray even mother nature put it down She went down on the docks Amy took some rocks Sunk every ship in Amatulle Sound Sometimes life it ain't so great sometimes life it ain't so bad sometimes life can be confusing but it's the only life she'll ever have Jimmy went and thumbed a ride to the biggest city Hoping that one day he'd meet a girl Amy took a dancing job and though she wasn't pretty She always found a John to take a whirl When jimmy laid his eyes upon ol Amy's thighs she asked him if they could have some fun he gave a little smirk then she took off her shirt Thus began the grossest love story in the world Sometimes love it ain't so great sometimes love it ain't so bad sometimes love can be disgusting but it's the only love they'll ever have
